A modern proverb (of sorts) has been circulating on social channels lately. It shares observations like “Marriage is hard, divorce is hard. Being healthy is hard, being unhealthy is hard. Communicating is hard, not communicating is hard.” (Etc.Etc.)
It ends with “Choose your hard.”
I say screw that. We don’t need a reminder that life is hard. Anyway, living is not so binary - with only two columns of easy and hard. There’s a lot in between and a lot before and after. Sometimes before things are easy, there’s discipline and mastery. Sometimes before things are hard, they’re amazing.
What if we choose another option instead? Forget easy and hard. Choose adventure. Choose peace. Choose curiosity. Choose love. Choose wild.
What would be your wild?
For me it usually involves traveling somewhere, often last minute - whether it’s across the world or across town.
It’s also canceling meetings, canceling plans.
It’s live music, it’s dancing, it’s running.
It’s reading until four a.m. because the book is just too good.
It’s baking in the kitchen on a Sunday, with a little champagne and Ella Fitzgerald on the side.
It’s blowing off work for a morning hike.
It’s doing whatever I want, whenever I want.
Let it be wild
Let it be unknown
Let it be unpredictable
Let it be overgrown
Let it happen when it will happen
Let it be free
